Adobe is invested in advancing design education to learners and educators across multiple disciplines and has partnered with Design Observer to create a curriculum around human-centered design. As the education partner for Season 1 of The Futures Archive podcast, we invite thought leaders and practitioners of human-centered design to bring the conversation into the classroom to provoke, contemplate, and reimagine the extent to which humans are considered in the design of everyday objects.
Redesign an everyday object: In this activity, students engage with human-centered design by considering the question: How might we redesign the passport for the user instead of for the person at passport control?  Students listen to a podcast from The Futures Archive to learn about the history of the passport. Then, students create a new passport that benefits the needs of the passport holder. They use Adobe XD to prototype and explain their new idea.
Prototyping an everyday object: In this activity, students engage with human-centered design by considering the question: How does a persona influence the design of a prototype? Students listen to a podcast from The Futures Archive to learn about the history of the chair. Then, students get creative by interviewing others on their favorite sandwiches. They use Adobe XD to create a persona chart for their sandwich and then prototype their new idea with household items.
In this activity, students engage with human-centered design by considering how everyday objects interact with humans. Students listen to a podcast from The Futures Archive to learn about the history of the pet and the concept of anthropomorphization. They use Adobe Express to write a news article from the perspective of a non-human entity.
